Ambassador to Japan Akylbek Kamaldinov took part in a ceremony of opening of the Honorary Consulate of Kazakhstan in the city of Sapporo, Hokkaido. During his trip the Ambassador gave a lecture to the community of Hokkaido. He told about the main provisions of the Kazakh President's Address to the Nation, major international initiatives of our country including chairmanship in the OSCE. The Ambassador also had bilateral meetings and negotiations with the local executives and businessmen.

Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov has held a meeting with Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in Moscow. There were discussed the issues of further development of bilateral trade-economic cooperation, including in the space and electric power fields, and in the sphere of nuclear industry. There were also considered topical issues of interaction of Kazakhstan and Russia within the framework of the Customs Union and in the process of formation of the single economic space.

28 people were rescued from snow blockade in Algabas village, Ulan municipality of East Kazakhstan oblast. No cases of overcooling and injuries were reported. During the rescue operations all cars were towed to the cleared part of the highway after which they continued their movement to Ust Kamenogorsk.

The State Program on Forced Industrial-Innovative Development till 2020, first of all, involves joint work of the Government and business. Head of the State Nursultan Nazarbayev has announced it at the first plenary session of the Council of Entrepreneurs under the Kazakh President. Members of the Government, the Parliament deputies, representatives of the President's Administration, national companies, associations and public organizations, large banks and the country's business elite are taking part in the session of the Entrepreneurs Council.

The third international research conference, titled "The Issues of Innovation Development of Oil-and-Gas Industry" has been opened today in Almaty. The conference was organized by Kazakh-British Technical University. The conference will last two days.

Kazakh biathlete Elena Khrustaleva has won a silver Olympic medal in the women's 15km individual biathlon race. Norway's Tora Berger became a champion of the competition, and Belarusian athlete Darya Domracheva got the bronze. The women's 15km individual biathlon race was held at Whistler Olympic Park with four shootings. It is necessary to note that E.Khrustaleva missed none target and hit all of them (20). She was 20.7 seconds behind T.Berger.

Kazakh parliamentary delegation headed by Senate Speaker, Vice President of OSCE PA Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is taking part in the Winter Meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Vienna on February 17-19.
A Standing Committee Meeting and sessions of the Assembly's three General Committees will be held within the Winter Meeting. K. Tokayev is expected to speak at a special debate on the situation in Afghanistan and at the sitting of the Standing Committee. The Speaker is also planned to meet with President of the Austrian Nationalrat Barbara Prammer and give a lecture at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.

Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov has taken part in the ceremony of laying flowers at the monument to Kabanbai Batyr in Taldykorgan. First Deputy Chairman of Nur Otan People's Democratic Party Nurlan Nigmatulin, Minister of Culture and Information Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed, Minister of Transport and Communications Abelgazy Kussainov, Minister of Agriculture Akhylbek Kurishbayev and Akim of Almaty region Serik Umbetov took part in the ceremony as well.

Issues of countering money laundering and financial terrorism will be discussed at a seminar in Astana on February 9-11. In particular, issues on enactment of the Law "On countering money laundering and financial terrorism" and cooperation of the Committee with other state bodies and financial monitoring entities will be discussed at the seminar. The organizers of the seminar are the Kazakh Committee on Financial Monitoring and the World Bank and UNODC.

"The Customs Control Committee needs to organize communication with the Customs Services of Russia and Belarus through the Operation Control Center in order to provide common customs processes", Kazakh Finance Minster Bolat Zhamishev said Thursday at the meeting of the board of the Ministry. According to the Minister, by the decision of the Commission of the Customs Union as of October 21, 2009, the Action plan on transfer of agreed types of state control to the external border of the Customs Union in the pat concerning the Kazakh-Russian border was approved. In this regard, the Customs Control Committee needs o adopt measures on realization of the action plan.
