Kazakh President N.Nazarbayev visited the Palace of Sport named after Baluan Sholak within his working trip to Almaty. The President was accompanied by city Mayor Akhmetzhan Yesimov. The Kazakh national women's volleyball team met with the President in the Palace. The team has recently won the international volleyball tournament "The Cup of President N.Nazarbayev". The sportswomen congratulated the President on his birthday and wished many years of life and good health. Director of the Palace of Sport Yuriy Zakharin informed the President that reconstruction of the Palace was started within the preparation to the Asian Winter Games 2011.

Almaty Mayor Akhmetzhan Yesimov surveyed the process of construction of facilities of the Asian Winter Games 2011. The Mayor visited high-mountainous skating rink "Medeo" where a run-in tests of new ice cover was underway. The ice floe will work by a new six-zoned scheme. Each zone is provided by a group of cooling pumps. Besides, a new scoreboard and lightening system were installed at the skating rink.

Completion of a skating stadium in Astana needs supplementary costs. Astana Mayor Imangali Tasmagambetov has announced it at a visiting meeting on the capital construction with participation of Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov. According to him, a design estimate documentation of the facility was sent for examination.

Kazakh biathlete Elena Khrustaleva has won a silver Olympic medal in the women's 15km individual biathlon race. Norway's Tora Berger became a champion of the competition, and Belarusian athlete Darya Domracheva got the bronze. The women's 15km individual biathlon race was held at Whistler Olympic Park with four shootings. It is necessary to note that E.Khrustaleva missed none target and hit all of them (20). She was 20.7 seconds behind T.Berger.

Kazakh national team with Yaroslava Shvedova and Andrey Golubev won over Germant in a final round of Group B. At the beginning of the round Shvedova beat Sabine Lisicki, the winner of the first tournament of WTA, in singles match 6-4, 7-6 (7/3). After then A. Golubev defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-2, 6-1. Thus, Germany lost to Kazakhstan in two matches 2-0. As a result of three matches Kazakhstan ranks the second in Group B.

"According to the forecasts, about 10-15 thousand foreign nationals will visit Kazakhstan during the Asia Games - 2011", Head of Almaty department of tourism, physical training and sport Khairbolat Khaidarov said Friday at the XXII session of the Maslikhat.
According to him, the Almaty akimat developed a program on preparation to the Asian Games and established working groups. "The preparation to the Games was divided into 26 directions that are controlled over by Deputy Mayors. Additional competitions, in particular, "Cultural Asian Games in Almaty" will be held within the sport events of the Games", K.Khaidarov said.

Head of the State Nursultan Nazarbayev has participated in the ceremony for the start of the final stage of Silk Rally - 2009 races in Turkmenbashi city, Turkmenistan.
The rally organized under the support of the presidents of Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan started September 5 in Kazan (Russia). Competitors from 25 countries of the world - 180 sportsmen on 20 trucks, 51 -on cars took part in it. The length of the route is more than 4.3 km.

A 35-years-old heavyweight ex-champion Vassily Zhirov has returned to boxing. V. Zhirov is expected to have a bout on September, 17 in the USA. The name of his competitor is unknown at present. As earlier reported, on July 14, 2007 Zhirov defeated Kenny 'The Raven' Craven by TKO in second round of 10 round scheduled bout.

The official ceremony of opening of the new stadium for 30 thousand sits will take place on July 3 in advance of the Astana Day celebration. The new stadium is a football facility for 30 thousand sits with a sliding roof, according to the event organizers.

Kazakhstan Prime Minister Karim Massimov has chaired a session of the organization committee on preparation and holding of the VII Asian Winter Games 2011 in Astana and Almaty cities in the Ukimet Uiy. The organization committee discussed the issues regarding financing of facilities construction and reconstruction of the Asian Games in Astana, Almaty and Almaty oblast.

International tennis tournament ITF Pro Circuit “Almaty Women’s” has started in the Gorky Tennis Park of Almaty. The tournament is conducted on April 20-25. Female athletes of 14 and older are participating. Tennis players from over 20 countries will compete for the Prize Money amounting to USD 10,000. Kazakhstan is represented by young tennis players - participants of the "Team Kazakhstan" project of the Tennis Federation of Kazakhstan.

III republican distant Olympiad “Language is a symbol of state’s independence” on Kazakh language between pupils of other nationalities takes place in Astana.“The Olympiad is aimed at revelation of pupils of non-Kazakh nationalities, talented in linguistics and interested in studying of Kazakh language”, Director of “Daryn” Republican Scientific-Practical Center Tildash Bituova said. The event was organized by “Daryn” Center of the Kazakh Ministry of Education and Science and Committee on Languages of the Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Information.

Kazakhstan’s men’s basketball team made it to the final of the Asian Youth Championship which is currently taking place in Syria.
Today our players will meet the team from Iran. In the semi-final Kazakhstan beat Japan with a score of 103:78.
“Even if we lose, we will still be preparing for the World Youth Championship since out of the Asian group the top 3 teams qualify. This is a great achievement and success for Kazakhstan’s basketball”, - with pride stated the coach of our young team, Vadim Burakov.
Tomorrow Kazakhstan’s athletes will arrive in Almaty.

XXIX Olympic Games continue in Beijing. Over these days KZ sportsmen have won 7 medals in different kinds of sport.
In particular, silver medal was won by: weightlifters – Irina Nekrasova (63kg) and Alla Vazhenina (75kg) and judoist Askhat Zhitkeyev (78kg).
Bronze medal was won by: Greco-Roman wrestlers Nurbakhyt Tenizbayev and Asset Mambetov (60kg and 96kg categories), weightlifter Marina Grabovetskaya (75kg) and free-style wrestler Yelena Shalygina (63kg).

Kazakhstan’s athletes will once again battle for Olympic medals. Vladimir Kuznetsov (77 kg) will participate in the qualification round of the lifting competition.
Zauresh Baibusinova will represent Kazakhstan in the qualification round of the 25 m air pistol competition.
Women’s Judo competition in the weight category – up to 70 kg, will begin today and Kazakhstan will be represented by Zhanar Zhanzunova.
Also Darkhan Bayakhmetov (66 kg) and Roman Meleshin (74 kg) will compete in the Greek-Roman wrestling competition. In boxing, Birzhan Zhakipov (48 kg) and Ruslan Myrsatayev (above 91 kg) will face their opponents.
Zulfiya Zabirova will take part in the final 23.5 km cycling race. Afterwards, cyclists Andrey Mizurov and Maksim Iglinskiy will compete in the 47 km race.

Kazakh President N.Nazarbayev will visit People’s Republic of China on August 7-10, 2008. Kazakh MFA’s official representative Yerzhan Ashikbayev informed at a weekly briefing. “Within the visit Kazakh President will take part at the opening ceremony of the XXIX Olympics in Beijing and visit a number of sport competitions with Kazakh athletes’
participation”, Y.Ashikbayev said. Besides, Kazakh President will meet with Chairman of People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao.

“Kazakhstan’s Wrestling Championship devoted to Astana’s 10th anniversary will take place in the Astana sport complex “Alatau” on June 7-8”, Deputy Chief of Sports Committee of the Kazakh Tourism and Sport Ministry Malik Alpysbayev said.
“The championship is aimed at promotion and development of the national sport “Kazakh kuresi”. The results of the competitions will help select athletes to the national team for participation in the championship of Asia planned to be held on July in Kyrgyzstan”, M. Alpysbayev.
The event is organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Sport, “Kazakh kuresi” wrestling federation and sports department of Astana.

A regular session of the steering committee for preparation and holding the VII Asian Winter Games 2011 in the cities of Astana and Almaty chaired by Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov was held in “Ukimet Uyi”.
The questions on construction and reconstruction of the sport objects, which are necessary for holding the VII Asian Winter Games were discussed there. A list of sport facilities includes about 15 objects: 10 of them will be built and another 5 objects are going to be reconstructed.
The session participants considered issues on construction of ski – biathlon line and ski stadium in Almaty oblast.
Besides, Karim Massimov instructed to prepare a land plot for construction of the international ski jumping boards’ complex in Almaty.

“We expect to win 3 medals of different value in the Olympics”, Head Coach of Kazakhstan on heavy athletics Alexey Ni has told during honoring the sportsmen.
The heavy athletes of Kazakhstan had won 9 licenses from 10 possible. Five of them are men and four –women. “We expect Ilya Ilyin will win a gold medal in category of 94kg and Marina Grabovetskaya in category of over 75kg”, the Head Coach said.

Following the results of the 2nd AIBA Asian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Tournament " Astana 2008" all five Kazakh boxers purchased licenses for participation in Beihing Olympic games.
Mirat Sarsenbauev (51kg), Kanat Abutalipon (54kg), Galib Jafarov (57kg), Merey Akshalov (60kg) and Ruslan Myrsatayev (over 91kg) joined the 5 best boxers, who had earlier won right to participate in a qualifying round in the Olympics. These are Birzhan Zhakipov (48kg), Serik Sapiyev (64kg), Bakhyt Sarsekbayev (69kg), Bakhtiyar Artayev (75kg) and Erkebulan Shinaliyev (81kg).

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has participated in the big tennis's warm-up match within the frame of the republican action of Nur Otan People's Democratic Party titled For healthy nation.

"An ice hockey stadium for 5 500 viewers will be built in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana", Emergency Minister of the country Viktor Khrapunov has stated at today's presentation of the book Our hockey.
Mr. Khrapunov has reminded of the fact that Astana's hockey team Barys was to take part in the next season of the Russian Hockey Super League. "By constructing the ice hockey stadium in Astana Kazakhstan will fulfill all requirements imposed to the teams of the Russian Super League", V. Khrapunov stressed. 14/07/2007

"China is interested in the development of cooperation with Kazakhstan, in particular, with Almaty, in the sphere of sport", Liu Peng, the director of the General Administration of Sport of China, said in Almaty after the meeting with akim (mayor) of Almaty city Imangali Tasmagambetov and Tourism and Sport Minister of Kazakhstan Temirkhan Dosmukhambetov. Liu Peng paid a visit to Almaty within the frame of his official visit to Kazakhstan. A day before, he held a meeting with Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov and Tourism and Sport Minister Temirkhan Dosmukhambetov in Astana. The sides signed an agreement on cooperation in the sphere of sport during the talks.

22 March the Astana Sport Palace Kazakhstan will play a host to the Kazakh President's Cup Muay Thai Tournament (Thai Boxing) with an international action Muay Thai against drugs. Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov and Astana mayor Askar Mamin are believed to attend the opening ceremony.

The mayor of Almaty, Imangali Tasmagambetov met with the head of the Sports Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia, Jizhong Wei. The theme of the negotiations touched upon conducing the 2011 Asian Games in Almaty. Mister Wei is cooperating with the organization committee of the Olympic Games, which will take place in Beijing next year. At the Olympic Council of Asia, Mr Wei is working on the issues regarding preparation for the Asian Games and on matters concerning the development of the sports programme.

He has a big experience of the work in football structure including FSK and FC "Astana", from which he - a president.
As the FSK Director General Mr. Akimkulov is in charge of national group. 15/01/2007
