Lake Borovoe – beautiful at any time of the year

Borovoe is one of the lakes of Burabay group of lakes located in the north of Kazakhstan, in the Burabay district of the Akmola region.
The entire shore of the lake is covered with pine forests, hence the name – Borovoe (“bor” means a coniferous forest in Russian). The historical name of the lake is Auliekol, which means “Holy Lake”.

The Singing Dune of Altyn Emel National Park

The so-called “Singing dune”, a popular tourist sight of Kazakhstan, is located in the national park Altyn Emel, 182 km north-east of Almaty.
The dune is composed of light-colored sand and has a length of about 3 km and a height of 150 m. In dry weather sands emit a sound similar to an organ melody. Photos by: Sergey Terekhov.

Big Almaty Lake is a mountain reservoir located in the Trans-Ili Alatau at an altitude of 2,511 meters above sea level, 15 km south from the center of Almaty.
The lake, which is part of the Ile-Alatau National Park, as well as the vast majority of lakes in the Tien Shan mountains, appeared as a result of earthquakes.

Beautiful Scenery of Kolsai Lakes

Kolsai (Kulsai) lakes is a system of three lakes located in the northern Tien Shan in Kolsai Gorge, in Raiymbek district of the Almaty region, 10 km north of the border with Kyrgyzstan and 330 km south-east of Almaty, at an altitude of about 1,800 m, 2,200 m and 2,800 m above sea level.
The lakes, surrounded by pine forests, are known as “the pearl of the Northern Tien Shan.” The depth of the lakes can reach 50 meters.

In 1998, Kazakhstan’s Supreme Council adopted a resolution on the transfer of the capital from Almaty to Astana.
After that, the city experienced unprecedented growth, a lot of modern architectural and urban planning projects completely changed the look of Astana. The population increased from 270 thousand people in 1996 to 1 million in July 2016.

Beach in Golubaya Bay – a wonderful site on the Caspian coast

The beach in Golubaya (Blue) Bay is located on the Mangyshlak Peninsula, in the Mangistau region of Kazakhstan. The beaches of this bay are considered one of the most beautiful places on the peninsula.
You can get here, after leaving the city of Aktau in the direction of the town of Fort-Shevchenko located to the north-west. Golubaya Bay is a perfect combination of clean golden beaches and azure turquoise sea.

Aktau Mountains – a unique monument of nature

Aktau Mountains, located in Altyn Emel National Park in the south-east of Kazakhstan in the Almaty region, is a unique natural monument.
These colorful chalky hills, formed from bluish-gray sandstone and red clay, interspersed with yellow and pink cornelian, jasper and white quartz, reminiscent of a layer cake. Photos by: Sergey Terekhov.

The largest Catholic church in Kazakhstan

Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Fatima, located in Karaganda, is the largest Catholic church in Kazakhstan. The cathedral was built on the model of the Cologne Cathedral in Germany.
The solemn consecration of the cathedral was carried out September 9, 2012. In the warm season, it also hosts concerts of organ, symphonic and choral music.

Karaganda Regional Central Mosque

Karaganda Regional Central Mosque is the fourth largest mosque of Kazakhstan in size and capacity after two mosques in Astana and one in Almaty.
It can accommodate up to 4,000 people, 3,200 in the main hall on the second floor and 800 in the hall for women on the third floor.
