On the City Day, a new fountain was opened in the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk. Local residents call it “Ust-Kamenogorsk miracle.” The right to open the fountain was given to the People’s Artist of Kazakhstan – Ayman Musakhodzhayeva.

Three light and music fountains (20×40 meters each) constitute a single orchestra, where jets of water “dance” to the music, and below you can see backlight that changes colors. The maximum height of the jet at the peak of the music reaches forty meters. In the daytime, fountains work as usual. The light show starts at 20.00 local time.

The ship graveyard of the Aral Sea

The Aral Sea is a formerly undrained salt lake in Central Asia, located on the border of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Since the 1960s, the level of the sea began to decline rapidly because of the diversion of water for irrigation purposes from the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers.

Several port cities, such as Aralsk, suddenly found themselves far from the sea, many ships were abandoned. Photos by: Denis Frantsouzov.
