Fantastic landscapes of Katautau Mountains

“Altyn Emel” is a state national park located in the Ili River valley in Almaty region of Kazakhstan.

The park was established to preserve the unique natural environment, archaeological, historical and cultural monuments, rare and endangered species of plants and animals. Development of eco-tourism is also one of the main objectives.

Aktolagay is a limestone plateau located on the border of Atyrau and Aktobe regions; in the past this plateau was the seabed. That is why, now, you can find an abundance of various fossils here – shellfish, corals and other marine life lived millions of years ago.

The plateau impresses travelers with its deserted scenery and amazing white cliffs. Unfortunately, not many people know about this magnificent place. Aktolagay on Google Maps. Photos by Ilia Afanasieff

Magnificent view of Charyn Canyon

Charyn Canyon is a part of the Charyn National Park located about 190 km east of Almaty.

Landscape diversity of the canyon causes diversity of the local flora and fauna. This lovely place is definitely worth a visit. Photo by Anna Anikina
