The Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Fatima located in the city of Karaganda is the largest Catholic cathedral in Kazakhstan and in Central Asia. The height of its towers is 40 meters.
The Cologne Cathedral in Germany was taken as a model. The design of the cathedral was developed by the German architect Karl-Maria Ruf. Construction continued from 2004 to 2012. Today, it is one of the most magnificent buildings in Karaganda. Karaganda Cathedral on Google Maps. Photos by: Evgeny Tkachenko.
The cathedral is built of brick, faced with shell rock, and covered with aluminum tiles. Each of the two towers has a 12-meter spire and a 3-meter cross. The stained-glass windows were brought from Germany. The towers have clocks with a diameter of about 1 m.
The Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Fatima has the largest organ in Kazakhstan. Concerts of organ music are regularly held here.
