The Ascension Cathedral in Almaty

The Ascension Cathedral (1904-1907), also known as Zenkov’s Cathedral (in honor its architect Andrei Zenkov), is located on the territory of the Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen in Almaty. It is included in the list of historical and cultural monuments of Kazakhstan of republican significance.
This church is a unique architectural structure – one of the tallest wooden buildings in the world and the tallest Orthodox wooden church. The Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Fatima located in the city of Karaganda is the largest Catholic cathedral in Kazakhstan. The height of the towers – 40 meters.

Mosque of Ryskeldy Kazhy in Astana

In May 2018, a new unusual mosque was opened after two years of construction in Saryarka district of Astana. The design is made in the style of Kazakh postmodernism and also features traditional patterns and decorative elements. The mosque named Ryskeldy Kazhy resembles a flower bud or a diamond.

The largest Catholic church in Kazakhstan

Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Fatima, located in Karaganda, is the largest Catholic church in Kazakhstan. The cathedral was built on the model of the Cologne Cathedral in Germany.
The solemn consecration of the cathedral was carried out September 9, 2012. In the warm season, it also hosts concerts of organ, symphonic and choral music.

Karaganda Regional Central Mosque

Karaganda Regional Central Mosque is the fourth largest mosque of Kazakhstan in size and capacity after two mosques in Astana and one in Almaty.
It can accommodate up to 4,000 people, 3,200 in the main hall on the second floor and 800 in the hall for women on the third floor.

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Almaty

This wonderful Orthodox church located in Almaty, in Karasu district (Vysokovoltnaya Street, 37-b) was finished just several years ago, in 2011.
The Church in Honor of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was built in the Byzantine style, the height of the church is 33 meters. The photos were taken by Sergey Terekhov.

The Land of Tengri – the Eternal Sky

Before the adoption of Islam, Christianity and Buddhism, medieval Turkic peoples, ancestors of Kazakhs, had their ancient religion – Tengrism. It is a religion based on a belief in the Creator, presumably originated in the late 2nd – early 1st millennium BC.
The cult of Tengri is the cult of blue sky – the Eternal Sky, a place of permanent habitation of the Creator. Blue color of Kazakhstan flag meaning infinite sky over the earth and the people is the reference to this religion.
This video can help you to become imbued with the idea of the Eternal Sky that inspired the ancestors of Kazakhs.

Karaganda Mosque – One of the Largest in Kazakhstan

Karaganda regional mosque is one of the largest mosques in Kazakhstan. Its capacity is 4000 people. The mosque is located in ethnic park named “The 10th Anniversary of Independence.”
The opening of the mosque took place November 20, 2011. It is the largest place of worship in central Kazakhstan, the height of the four minarets is 51 meters.

Hazrat Sultan is the largest mosque in Central Asia located in Astana – the capital city of Kazakhstan. Construction of the mosque began in June 2009. July 6, 2012, at 12:30, the mosque was opened.
The building was constructed in the classic Islamic style using traditional Kazakh ornaments. The mosque can accommodate up to 10,000 people. “Hazrat Sultan” has the largest dome in Kazakhstan (height – 51 meters, width – 28.1 meters). The height of the minarets is 77 meters. Photos by Petr Ushanov

Flaming shores of Zaysan Lake

Zaysan is a lake located in the East Kazakhstan region of the country, in the open high and flat valley between mountain ranges. The Chinese border is just 60 km from the eastern shore of the lake.
