Stephen Gerald asks: In US we heard that city of Semey is polluted with atomic radiation. Is it true that people in Semey city are affected with this atomic radiation? I am communicating with woman from Semey. Do you think I should be concerned? We will appreciate your reply. Thank you very much in advance.
Expert's answer:
Here is an article about Semipalatinsk testing ground (the city itself is located at some distance according to the map)and an article about Semey city (the articles are on Russian but can be translated by the following service). It is not correct that the city is polluted with radiation. Main issue is the health of people who worked at testing ground at the time when nuclear bombs were tested (before 1989).
