The Medeu is a high-mountain sports complex located near Almaty, the “southern capital” of Kazakhstan, at an altitude of 1,691 meters above sea level, just below the mountain resort Shymbulak (Chimbulak).

On the City Day, a new fountain was opened in the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk. Local residents call it “Ust-Kamenogorsk miracle.” The right to open the fountain was given to the People’s Artist of Kazakhstan – Ayman Musakhodzhayeva.

Three light and music fountains (20×40 meters each) constitute a single orchestra, where jets of water “dance” to the music, and below you can see backlight that changes colors. The maximum height of the jet at the peak of the music reaches forty meters. In the daytime, fountains work as usual. The light show starts at 20.00 local time.

November 28, 2014, Almaty hosted the beauty contest “Miss Kazakhstan 2014”. Thirty-three beauties from all over the country took part in the final stage of the competition.

Ski resort “Shimbulak” (“Chimbulak”) is situated in a picturesque Trans-Ili Alatau valley at a height 2260 meters above sea level, 25 km from the center of Almaty. The average summer temperature is plus 20 C, in winter – minus 7 C. The average snow depth is 150 cm, the number of sunny days per year is about 90%.

The resort is known for a variety of slopes, including slopes for beginners, long slopes for skiers, slopes for downhill skiing, valleys with untouched snow and half-pipe for snowboarders, extreme turns for pros, a special track for mogul.

The main characteristics of the resort: plateau length – 3800 meters, width – from 100 to 600 meters, vertical drop – 943 meters, ski area – 2260-3163 meters, total area – 99 acres.

The tradition of hunting with tame hawks and falcons appeared very long ago. Today it is preserved only in a few countries including Kazakhstan. February 12, near the village of Nura (Almaty oblast), the 4th hunting tournament of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held.

There were competitions in several disciplines, starting with grades for the appearance and quality of equipment of a hunter, checking out how well the bird was trained, and finally the main event – hunting for hares and foxes. The tour of Almaty Zoo

The total area of Almaty Zoo is about 21 hectares. Abundant and varied wildlife of Kazakhstan is presented by a lot of species, in particular, such as Siberian stag, argali, wolf, golden eagle and others.

Animals from almost all continents of the Earth found their home in Almaty Zoo. White and Himalayan bears, tigers, jaguars, Persian and Far East leopards; elephants, zebras, yaks, deer; American condors, vultures; snakes and crocodiles – 509 species in total – are living there. The zoo is especially proud of a pair of white lions.
